Anna Binoy got awarded the DOE-INFN fellowship to carry out research at INFN Bologna

Prestigious KU Research Staff achievement award to Lab member
Nicola Minafra has been a member of the Lab for three years working for the ALICE Collaboration in the ALICE FoCal and the MAPS sensor radiation studies for the ALICE ITS3 and the EIC. He currently serves as the FoCal Technical Coordinator.

Inaugural College Research Product Award
Prof. Daniel Tapia Takaki was awarded this KU College level award, recognizing faculty who have created an outstanding product that made significant contributions to the scholar's discipline.

Beyond Vision: Physics Meets Contemporary Art
"Collection Reframed: We Are Here, Beyond Vision" has opened at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art! Our lab contributed to “Collection Reframed: We Are Here, Beyond Vision” at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, a multidisciplinary exhibition led by artist Janet Biggs. Bringing together physics, dance, mathematics, and spatial audio, the project explores perception beyond sight and reimagines how audiences experience art through sound, movement, and touch.

Gizmodo announced the winners of its 2025 Science Fair
We're honored that our team’s work with the ALICE Collaboration at CERN—exploring how lead nuclei can transform into gold—was selected as one of this year’s winning projects!

Techniques developed at KU helped detect creation of gold in LHC collisions

Exciting news from the Spencer Museum of Art!
We’ve successfully completed a $2M challenge grant, bringing total support for our Arts Research Integration (ARI) program to $5M.
ARI boldly integrates artists into research, bringing together artists, scientists, and humanists to explore complex questions — from prairie preservation to fundamental physics.

Prof. Daniel Tapia Takaki’s work featured in CERN Courier
Prof. Daniel Tapia Takaki’s invited CERN Courier article, “The other 99%,” highlights how ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC provide new insight into gluon dynamics and the strong interaction. The feature was selected as the journal’s front cover.

Quantum fluctuations discovered at the subnucleon level
Physical Review Letters' Editor suggestions. The first experimental measurement of the incoherent photonuclear production of J/ψ in ultraperipheral heavy-ion collisions is better explained by the presence of subnuclear quantum fluctuations of the gluon field.

KU undergraduate research award to undergrad in the Lab
